These wonderful vintage sheets of washi are not longer made like this. Originally sheets like this were made for decorative brush calligraphy.

Dyed pulp is artfully arranged in the paper to create a very subtle cloud like effect on the sheet.Originally developed for brush calligraphy.

Note: the color variation is quite subltle and pale and shows darker in the photograph than in actual life.
