Konnyaku Starch with Recipe Card for The Paper Year January 2023 Workshop
This is a 5g or 10g pack of konnyaku starch with receipe card. A standard batch uses 5g of konnyaku starch. It will treat quite a bit of Japanese paper (washi) and many artists make up a half batch.
Konnyaku is best made up and left to sit for a day or overnight. Konnyaku does not last a long time so you should only make up what you need. Use of distilled water is recommended but not absolutely necessary.
Konnyaku is powdered Devil's Tongue root (Amorphophallus konjac), a natural plant starch that, when mixed with water and applied by brush to Japanese paper, gives extra strength, waterproofing and memory to papers. It can also be used as an adhesive for collage. Recipe card sent with purchase.
Konnyaku can be used to stiffen Japanese paper, but also can make washi (Japanese paper) very soft and chamois-like by continued kneading. Multiple applications of konnyaku can enhance the strength of the paper for kneading.
For those ordering just a pack of konnyaku starch (5g or 10g) to be send via first class mail (no tracking) please select “pick-up” at checkout so you will not be charged for shipping.
