Tosa refers to the region where this paper is made, and Usushi means 'thin paper'. Very strong in spite of its thinness this paper is very even and smooth. Perfect for book repair and other conservation works as well as chine colle (collé), dyeing and layering. Cooked with soda ash and caustic soda, chlorine bleach, dried on stainless steel.

Made in Kochi (Tosa), this washi is made by a wonderful young maker whose upbringing in a Bhuddist temple shows in the even, carefully prepared kozo fiber. Though that fibre is Thai kozo which tends to be coarser, his careful preparation has made a very fine paper. As a result it is highly absorbent with a smooth very even surface.
